In collaboration with IDEAS (Island Development and Environmental Awareness Society), Charrette Studio volunteered to take part in a feasibility study on the use of mangroves as a coastal defense against wave swells and soil erosion in Huvadhoo Atoll.
Huvadhoo atoll is one of the largest atolls in the Maldives with a incredible biodiversity and mangrove areas. Charrette is involved in mapping the wetland area and developing a GIS model for two islands in Huvadhoo Atoll. Furthermore, Charrette has created a detailed concept and structural design for a viewing platform which is envisioned to create a closer bond with the people and mangroves.
In addition to this, Charrette is assisting the community and local council by doing land surveying and updating their land use plan. In the spirit of our community involvement, we have also conducted awareness sessions for locals on the importance of the built environment being able to coexist with natural spaces.
